PLEASE BE . ME

The Project

In collaboration with galleries, museums, and art associations, Michaela Hanemann is creating a temporary digital network. She creates connections between two art venues for a short time. During these time slots, participants can slip into the body of a living avatar and visit the connected location.

An avatar is a real person neutralized as a person by a costume, who can be guided through the exhibition with verbal instructions. Participants can explore the other locations, discover works of art, hold conversations, and interact as if they were really there. The avatar's costume functions as a white screen and serves as a projection surface for the participant, whose face is transferred onto the avatar. It is possible to move freely within the space, touch things, for example, leaf through a book or experience an interactive installation.

The project was funded in 2022 with a grant from the Ministry of Science and Culture and has since continued at selected locations.
